Germany – Prague – Danube Cruise – April 2019
My first River cruise was really eye-opening for me. I’d been on dozens of ocean cruises but really wanted to experience a river cruise. We chose the Romantic Danube, a common first time river cruise choice. 2nd most popular for newbies is the Rhine River from Amsterdam to Basel. With 26 friends and family in tow, we all met up in Prague after my husband and I rented a car and drove the Romantic Road in Bavaria, stopping at Neuschwanstein Castle, the charming walled city of Rothenburg Au Tauber and finally in Regensburg. We took the train from Germany to Prague to meet our group. In Prague, we had walking city tours, plenty of free time to explore and a great hotel in the heart of Prague. I had a driver pick up our group and take us to the ship in Vilshofen, Germany, on the Danube. On the way we stopped for a break and a very informative tour of Pilsner Urquell and on to board the AmaLea, a newer AmaWaterways boat. They greeted us at check in with an Octoberfest evening of entertainment, beer and Bavarian Pretzels! We sailed on from Vilshofen, Passau, Linz, Durnstein, Vienna and ended up in beautiful Budapest! It was an amazing and easy way to travel and experience so many different little villages along the way. This trip set the bar high for me and I loved how so much was included and everything is taken care of while in Ama’s hands. Really civilized way to travel!
